As a subscriber here and on YouTube, I really enjoy what you’re doing. But sadly I won’t be upgrading my subscription.. I can’t afford it on my limited income and so I will wave from the other side of the paywall to you and the others who I used to read regularly and now can’t ( Katherine May, Anna Broones, Kerri Ni Dochertaigh amongst others). I understand you need to get paid but maybe Substack could do something like a premium subscription that allows people to get access to the other side of the paywall ?

I completely understand that. I will still be putting out plenty of content for free :)

Super proud of all that you do. This is absolutely the right decision and I know how much care you have given it. It is time. xx

I am a little perplexed Molly. Surely having a partner is the same as being married, it is in many ways a civil partnership unless I am mistaken. Living alone is extremely different to living with a partner whether you are married or not. Partners provide love, stability, support, companionship and encouragement and many folk are completely committed to staying with their partner for life. Let us not forget that marriage and having a partner is a real blessing. I hope you don't mind me speaking frankly.

“I’d like a safe space where I can discuss deeper topics, such as my decision to remain childless and the reality of living as a highly sensitive person.”

This is a primary reason I have paid subscriptions too - it creates a place to talk about stuff like this that’s just a bit less visible

Well done you, Molly! I agree with paywalling more vulnerable posts, I totally get that. Look forward to seeing your content in 2024 :) x

Congratulations on making this commitment. Signed up. I'm excited to continue to follow along on your journey.

A humble suggestion for a future topic. I live in the US, but my heritage is Scottish and I'm planning a trip this fall, taking my father along with me. Sure, we'll go tour Edinburgh Castle, but that's about the extent of my desire in the standard tourist attractions. I'm much more interested in exploring as much of the awe of nature that exists and unique hidden treasures, so I'd love to see your recommendations of not to miss experiences for those of us seeking the slow life.

Just got back -- Edinburgh was delightful, but get yourself up north. The Isle of Skye was amazing. Wish we had so much more time there. Next time I want to go to more of the smaller islands as well. Please feel free to reach out if you want more specifics :)

So I read this like it was written by the original poster and was so confused how someone could write 'Just got back from Edinburgh' from the US in the space of 13 hours!

My post Christmas break brain still isn't functioning!

Hahaha. My brain is so not in 2024 yet either. I’m sure we’re in good company lol.

Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I can imagine how much thought went into this decision, and I am so happy to become a paid subscriber. You are one of the reasons I found myself here on Substack posting about my own Slow Living philosophy, and I LOVE your writing. I also love your YouTube videos, I find them so inspiring and I love seeing Skye so I do hope you will be continuing YouTube! I am so excited to join your community ... congratulations on this next step!

I’m sorry you feel like such an outsider, I’m most of those things you describe and society doesn’t make me feel like a failure? I’m a basic millennial white woman, like many of my peers, bang on trend for our generation.

I can resonate with so much of this. Thank you for sharing! I’ve just launched paid subscriptions on my own publication, for reasons similar to those you’ve stated, and I’m bolstered by the support I’ve had so far. I love your words and I love your goals, for this space, and for you!

I seem to share much of what you find important in life and as a fellow ‘tiny house’ owner I’m really pleased to find a more private and inclusive place to chat with like minded folks. Life and society often make me feel like I am somehow apart in how I prefer to live. I’d love to make more changes as I don’t live full time in my tiny house … future aspirations :)
