I would like to think l have the courage to live on my own again. Everytime I visit your site I think how can she live on her own in the Highlands. I have deep Scottish roots and would love be able to visit my family's castle one day. Money is scarce right now. I have recently developed an interest in birds and plants too. Have you read 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' ? It was one of the first books I remember carrying with me and reading more than once 😊
Ahhhhhh what a wonderful job / vocation. I really enjoyed this piece - felt like i was there, thank you. I’d like to hear more about why you felt such pain back then, but the mystery also adds to the piece - really, I’m probably just being nosey! What work do you do now, in the pine forests? I ask as we have one next to our new home (in France), we literally border it. Goes without saying it’s just wonderful, as all forests are. I was saying to my husband yesterday, I used to be obsessed with being by the sea, but I find more and more that i also - I think even more, now - cherish the forest.
Feels like one constant in this crazy hectic world is the chirping of birds. Even growing up in a suburban neighborhood, one of the best things to wake up to whether it be a weekend morning or a school morning was the chirping sound of birds. It meant that spring was here, Would love to one day witness these fulmars for myself. Thank you for the article Molly.

Beautifully written and very evocative - I've heard it said that smells can trigger very strong memories
Thank you!
“My childhood was mixed with the cries of gulls. It was then that this love was formed.” I loved that - mine too!
