I’m currently reading Rebecca which feels very dark and classically Gothic. I’ve read The House Between the Tides. I thought it was excellent and very atmospheric. I like a good, spooky tale for the darker nights so I’m going to read December by Phil Rickman next.
As I live In country Australia, I am now in Spring, but I did look on my shelves today for a new 'classic' to read and spotted my charity shop vintage "Great Expectations". So, in honour of your Autumn reading, I will start it with you. I also like the sound of the one set in Scotland as I loved "Rebecca" which I listened to on audio book a few months ago. I was new to it and was totally absorbed, so much so, that I often refused to get out of the car because I wanted to hear more! I look forward to more on this topic.
I love concept of Seasonal Reading!! It makes so much sense and I wonder why it's never occurred to me before! 🙈 Rebecca is my all time favourite book so it might be time to revisit it! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at those too 😊
Thank you Molly. Seasonal reading is something I have only just started thinking about doing and your suggestions are very helpful. As the nights are starting to draw in and there is a cool mist falling upon my garden in the evenings and early morning, I thought I would re read a book that is really very good. We all know the movie The Woman in Black but honestly it does not compare with the beautifully written book of this title by Susan Hill. The descriptive writing is very beautiful, especially that eerie cart ride to the old house as the sea mists arrive. Certainly worth a read during these autumn evenings. And it is not a long book, so it can be read along with other books too.
I’ve never read The Picture of Dorian Gray but I have watched the 1940’s film version of it several times. It is quite good! It is with a very young Angela Lansbury 💛✨
I’m so thrilled you published this post! I have been struggling to make Notion function for me but my database skills are not up to par. I just purchased your templates and will spend my day exploring and customizing them. I’m especially excited to get my reading life under control as my TBR pile gets bigger by the hour especially since I joined Substack. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've never thought about seasonal reading, to be honest. But it does make sense. The lighthearted stories for when it's too warm to even think, especially! I'll have to try that once we're done renovating and I have access to all my book again. For now, I'll have to make do with what I have digitally.
But thank you for this idea. I'll have to give it a try! (And thanks for the suggestions!)
As someone who also loves watching darling desi I have another lady who’s YouTube I also watch and would recommend is Morgan long she is into slow intentional living and is also vegan
Wuthering Heights has been on my reading list for the longest time.
I'm still in the midst of my summer reading season, but after my first-ever visit to Cornwall this summer, I am curious to read 'Rebecca' and be transported back to the rugged Cornish coast. I also picked up a couple of Scottish novels from the thrift shop to deepen my immersion in life in Scotland

Oh I just love Rebecca!
Oh, I haven't read Rebecca in years. But I think I need to revisit her now.
I love the Shady Hollows trilogy for autumnal reading. I think you'll find them suepr cosy, too <3
Oh I have heard these are good! Will have to add them to my list :)
Oh thank you for this. You are the second person today I've seen recommending this.

Haha I loved that you got stuck in the car! I hope you enjoy Great Expectations :)
I love reading cosy poetry in Autumn and I especially love the autumn Brambly Hedge book, it reminds me of my childhood!
I've had a couple of people mention that book! It sounds lovely :)

Verity was incredible!! I’ve just passed it on to my mum to read, the twist at the end was epic! 😳
I know, I never saw it coming! I still find myself thinking about it now!
Same!! It’s stayed with me for sure.
Ooo saving this for inspiration! Thanks Molly 🤍
Fab! Thank you :)

Oh thank you so much for this suggestion, it sounds perfect! :)
Love this. I reread Rebecca every autumn/winter - one of my absolute favourites.
I can see why! I've read it at least 3 times in my life and it never gets old :)

Oh, I will have to check that out!
