I especially appreciated the links to the resources you used to upskill yourself and the examples of how you used to the payroll on your posts and how many paid subscribers it generated.
I know I will be referring back to this when I decide to go paid. 😊
While I can’t pay right now, I will tell you how much I appreciate that you will be responding to people’s comments. You won’t be able to respond to everyone but that is a powerful lure. I really want to read one of your nature memoir suggestions. I think the memoir called Freckled might interest you. It takes place in Hawaii mostly but a little bit in California. You might enjoy all the cultural and weather differences from your life in Scotland. Love what you are doing, keep going!
Such a great read, thank you. I was really interested in your strategy on what to put behind a paywall and what to keep free. I definitely feel as though that's an area I'm still very much exploring here.
Thank you for this post, Molly! I've been doing research on Substack. I'm both a nature photographer and writer. After a weekend crash course in videography, I started a YouTube channel on ecopsychology, mythology / spirituality, and slow living last June. So I'm trying to find out what works best for me. Many thanks for your insight!
A great post and insight, Molly! I also kept seeing that advice about adding the paywall immediately but you make a good point about not doing it until you have a strategy. I find it adds pressure when my writing is currently a hobby not my job. Thank you for the refreshing perspective on this 💕👏
I started my Substack recently and am still exploring my free and paid for content tiers. Thanks for sharing your story! I’m off to explore those links. ✨💛
I feel good about Substack too, it's kind of a fitting in place to grow. I think every publication is different, I'm sure I will take mine to the next level one day, but as I'm all about quality and not just entertainment, I know it's not yet time. I'll let things evolve naturally.
Thanks for sharing Molly. I’m just warming up to turning on paid. I think I may just go for it as I won’t have oodles of time to refine as I’ve got a 1yo. I’m a jump right in girl so hoping I can get the ball rolling and welcome people in as good along and tweak
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

Aw thank you so much for your feedback! And book recommendation of course :). It sounds wonderful and I'm sure very different to Scotland!

Yes I think that's one the trickiest parts, so I'm just doing a bit of trial and error at present to figure out what might work best :)
You’ve created a great community and product. Well done. I look forward to all your posts.
Aw thank you so much lovely :)

Thanks so much Leanna! :)
THIS post has sent me off to be a paid up subscriber. I am finding it all a tad noisy here atm & trying to work out my direction/aim/focus.
Thank you for this enlightening share.
Aw I'm so happy to have you join us! :)

Well done, and thank you for sharing x
Thanks for sharing. Especially for the links on crafting welcome e-mails and the about page; two things I need to work on revising.
