Are you ever too old to be a granola girl? There are definite aspects of a 'granola girl' in me too, although I'm hardly a girl any more - maybe more a Granola Gran, lol 🤗. Fab post Molly. I love your clothes vibe and your writing is always spot on.

we are NEVER too old to be granola girls, wendy. in fact, we are the OG granola girls, from the '60's. i am 69 now and wear my own style with ease and comfort and happy that it reflects me, not some external passing fad. you do you, molly, and all of us! thanks for this delightful post!

Aww, love your style Molly. It's very similar to mine :) I completely agree - style always evolves according to your era and lifestyle. I too was brought up on second hand clothes and developed my own unique style. Then I remember in my late teens trying to fit in and be accepted and wearing what was in fashion, abandoning the charity shops. Then moving to the city and getting a corporate office job so my style became very 'officy' and smart. Then moving back to rural living and wearing clothing that suited my outdoorsy lifestyle, along with rediscovering second hand (which is where I have been now for years) :)

It sounds like we've had a very similar journey Rowena. Its so interesting to see how what we wear changes over time :)

I remember having to go shopping when I was transitioning from student to 'temping office girl' and then again when embarking on my professional career.

It's fascinating to look back and see how our personal style has changed and evolved over time.

I love your style Molly! My vibe is definitely more granola girl but I've always been more of a trousers/jeans wearer than anything else, and lately I've been wanting to venture into more dresses and dungarees. Vinted has definitely been my best friend on this search!

I loved this Molly! Thank you for sharing. Being similar in age (hello 30s!), I felt a lot of resonance with your description of your style evolution - especially the need to fit in around uni time. And then when I went out to work, feeling like I had to reinvent myself to look a 'certain' way. Says who??! Oh my gosh. I had a complete burnout from work around the time of the pandemic, and that's when I really stepped back and thought, 'Who am I, actually?' I, too, entered the world of the capsule wardrobe, the granola girl (though I'd never heard that phrase until today!), and to this day I love my small, considered wardrobe. I'm trying to do the same for my little one - though toddlers seem to go through clothes at a rate of knots so it's not so much capsule, though it is considered!

So interesting to hear your experience Holly! And yes I can see how a toddler capsule could be a challenge! :)

I wonder if all of us who grew up in 2nd hand clothing went through a phase of determining to never wear 2nd hand again. Now I've circled back through the 2nd hand Era and into my 'handmade' era. This is posing some challenges as it turns out I am really bad at sewing pants. But I press on.

Love this Rea. I'd very much like to learn how to make my own clothes one day!

The good news is that it's easier than ever! I highly recommend Evelyn Wood on YouTube for anyone just starting out on sewing clothes.

Oh, I love this post. Having a lot of handknit accessories about my person I think I'm definitely ready for my Granola Girl era.

Love this! And yes, please - more sustainable clothing and the normalization of wearing thrifted clothing! So many influencers don't do this because it means they can't earn from affiliate links, but since Poshmark is my favorite store, I would love to see your finds from YOUR favorite secondhand sources :-)

I love it, I've been kind of following the same path, only I've been also getting handmade items on ETSY. A classic cocktail dress I got to fit my body exactly 5 years ago, still works, and has lasted and endured over the years.

It's so nice to find your own style again. I recently had a wardrobe refresh, trying to find my style in my changed body. It took me ages, with some second hand and some new purchases that I then didn't like on me. I had liked the 'idea' of them more. Slowly, I re-found myself and my style and have now got rid of the excess and am back to a 'curated' wardrobe that feels like me.

It really can feel like a bit of a minefield but I'm so glad you feel more confident in your wardrobe again :)

Yes I love capsule wardrobe content! Especially when it’s not your classic capsule wardrobe. Very here for that! Love your outfits - they’re all so cosy but feel put together. I am need of an overhaul so this is good inspo 🙌💕

Brilliant, happy and upbeat posting Molly! Love those autumn colours on you! I have often wondered why job interview clothes have to be so dull and uninteresting. Surely work clothes should let the individual's personality shine through!

This is such a good point👍🏻i tend to have a work uniform, staple black trousers and cardie with a striped top. Need to bring a bit more fun into my wardrobe

It’s interesting how our styles evolve, isn’t it? 😊 Also, I love a good thrift store find! One of my favorite cardigans that I wear, I thrifted 🩷

I’m a jeans/t-shirt/baggy jumper/cardi kind of girl. Always have been. I do like a long hippy shirt or maxi dress if I’m feeling like dressing up but comfort is important to me. Sometimes I wish a had more of a ‘style’ or colour palette but I’ve accepted that clothing is not something I notice or am interested in. As long as it’s comfy I’m fine!

Love your style Molly and granola girl ethos, more posts/vlogs like this would be great. My style has def changed now i’m in my 40s, i def have a work wardrobe and tend to mostly wear jeans and comfy tops at home. I love browsing charity shops for interesting tops and cardigans

Granola girl - I love it! I never knew there was a name for the ethos I came to just a few years ago. Sadly I still have too many items in my wardrobe but I am getting there and parting with many that have built up over the years and now never see the light of day. I make a lot of my clothes, thrift many more and I bloody love Vinted! 😂
