It was the defining relationship of your childhood I think and set on the path to always be there for animals. You fail to mention, however, how traumatic it was for me to step into your shoes and look after when you were at university! Loved that gentle lady. xx
A lovely piece of writing Molly. It reminds me of my very first pet at the age of 12 - a rabbit. I used to take him everywhere with me as I figured he would be bored with the same places all the time. I would take him for bike rides in my wicker bike basket lined with newspaper and straw. He never once tried to jump out, but startled a few passers-by when he stuck his ears up! Lovely innocent days. He greatly outlived the normal life expectancy of a rabbit and died naturally at 10 years of age, by which time I was 22 years old and I was heartbroken at his loss.
Such a beautiful story! I can see some of it in my own children - they’re growing up with 13 chickens and each have their featured favourites. They do everything together and it melts my heart on the daily.
Sounds like a lovely friendship and gentle understanding between you both. I had the same with my cat called Suki as a child. She followed me everywhere and used to curl up to sleep around my head once I was tucked up in bed. Then later as I was sound asleep, my Mum would tip toe into my bedroom and remove her. Then, she'd be back in the morning lol.
Although both my parents worked, we had a hobby farm. Somewhere, I have a picture of my 4 year old sister sun bathing with a hen in the grass. The hen is tucked under her arm, snuggled into her.
I had an unconventional childhood compared to my peers. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Haha perhaps I should have added that in as a bit of humour! I knew I was leaving her in good hands xx
Loved this story. More about your time on Arran please.
Thank you! I'd love to share more :)

Oh this is such a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing :)
Pets in general are the best! I feel like my cats are my friends. Does that make me a crazy cat lady?! x
If it does I am one too as I feel the same! :)

Oh how wonderful! They really are such special animals :)
Such a fun read! I was trying, all the way through, to guess what kind of bird she was. You kept us guessing until the very end!
Aw thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed :)
Beautiful in its simplicity...
You told that story so beautifully, I felt it with you. So wonderful to have friendships like that where creatures really trust you
Thank you! It really is :)
It was a lovely read, but, having been completely traumatised by hens age two, I don't share your fondness for them, lol.
Aw bless you!
I found them scary when I was that age too (until about 4 or 5, in fact).
I still find them scary - feathered dinosaurs 😂
What a sweet story and, as always from you Molly, beautifully written. Thank you for sharing that with us. It truely touched my heart.
Thank you lovely :)
This is the most precious story I have heard!
Aw thank you! :)
Aww❤️❤️

This is a beautiful story. I know how it feels to love an animal, too. Thank you.
Thank you :)
Such a lovely read about an unlikely friendship. My neighbour has chickens and I love the little sounds they make.
