So lovely! Thanks for sharing, Molly! I use postcards as bookmarks, and they tell stories of places I've been, of people who gave them to me and of time because some I've kept for over 20 years. I agree, picking the perfect bookmark to accompany the next book I'm going to read, is a beloved ritual. 😊
We live in interesting times, by the way. When I recently titled a blog post "What My Bookmarks Tell About My Life", someone's first association were bookmarks on the internet. You can't blame them, can you? So good to see that there still are other people out there who use and love actual bookmarks in actual books. 🥰 Happy reading everyone! 📚
I love a good bookmark and I'm very jealous of your collection! My dog recently chewed up one of my favourite bookmarks (a gift from my husband) so I think this is my sign to treat myself to a new one...
Ohh how I relate to the love of collecting bookmarks! Like you, I used to collect little trinkets as a kid (stamps and seashells) but stopped doing so as an adult. Until I started collecting bookmarks... It's such a joy somehow!
I really agree that "They offer the perfect companion to my books." It totally enhances the reading experience to pick a bookmark for it! Sometimes I'll even buy one specially for a series haha. It's a cheap and minimalist collection to have for sure, and I love how they serve as travel memories too.
Thanks for sharing your collection, love the natute-themed bookmarks 😊
I'm a bit of a slob about marking pages, though having said that I never dog-ear. But I do tend to just reach for whatever bit of rubbish is around for the job: torn envelopes, hair ties, bits of knitting wool... But proper bookmarks are lovely, there's something about the tall thin format which is aesthetically interesting. My husband, though, is much more organised about using them, so it's nice to be able to find or make him a new one from time to time and know he'll use it!
Oh such a lovely topic and thanks for sharing your collection , they all look wonderful . I have a few nice ones and always use one but now I will definitely pay more attention finding beautiful ones .
I love bookmarks too! I have many and like you they remind me of places I visited - it is always the best souvenir. Also love to pair them with the books I am reading - it kind of enhances the whole experience 😊
I’m in need of a few bookmarks after recently returning to reading physical books.
Whenever I stop reading I have to remember the page I’ve reached because I don’t want to fold the page. Needless to say I often end up getting it wrong and re-reading a page or two!
I’m now thinking that having a dedicated storage solution for bookmarks is an excellent idea ☺️.
I also have a nice collection of bookmarks. My favorite are ones from bookstores that are out of the country that I have visited. I also have one that’s another favorite and it is long narrow price tag off of an expensive shirt that I bought on sale on a trip. It has some leather on it and it’s creased and ragged looking and I even love it more now.
I love collecting bookmarks too, but my collection has been slightly reduced after I got a puppy last year. She chewed up a few of them! She's all grown up now, so hopefully my remaining bookmarks will be safe 😅
Love your bookmarks! I enjoy bookmarks too and they are great to pick up while travelling as they are small, light and bring back happy memories of places visited
Loved this substack post Molly. I have recently started a collection of bookmarks. They are a very useful small collectable item, perfect! I loved your idea of making them and gifting them with a secondhand book too! I also loved your tour of your bookmark collection. 🔖📚🥰
I too love collecting bookmarks and have just been in to ‘Under the Leaves’ in Forres - what a beautiful little bookshop! They have hand painted bookmarks in at the moment that are just beautiful!

I love the idea of postcards as bookmarks Claudia! And yes, I wondered if people may confuse this with internet bookmarks at first 🤔
Postcards for bookmarks, I rather like this idea!

I too have a collection of bookmarks that I have picked up over the years at various bookshops.
And here I thought I was the only one who did that.
I love your posts and find them a delight, loved the "bookmark" tour!
Thank you lovely, I'm so glad!
