So with you on this! I can't get up unless I have my tea in bed - and I've lucky enough that hubby also brings it in for me. He then goes off to walk the dog and I can read my book or listen to a podcast in peace. 🌻 ☕️ Twinings breakfast is my tea of choice...
Tea was also an acquired taste for me... I didn't start drinking it until I was in my mid 20's - used to hate the taste of it. Weird to think of that now as I drink lots of it during the day 😂 Mindyou, some would say I have it so weak it's really hot water and milk. 🤣 ☕️
Oh what a gorgeous memory. My husband bring me tea most mornings. There’s something special about that first sip when you’re still half asleep. At our wedding our best man said “the kettle is always on” and this was probably the thing that meant most to us. Tea means family, it means friends. There’s nothing better.
This made me smile. I’m sat reading this in bed, with a cup of tea made by my husband. He brings me a cup of tea every morning, normally with at least one child in tow!
Yorkshire tea is my favourite and it reminds me of staying at my grandparents house .
I'm with you on this. I love tea - my ideal is cuppa is made from loose leaf tea in a pot and drunk with a dash of milk out of a china cup with a thin lip and white inside!
Beautifully written. Before I retired I was fuelled by coffee, 5 or 6 cups a day. After a minor heart issue hit, I had to give up caffeine. I searched for a decent decaf tea here in the USA, and settled on PG tips decaf, because our decaf tea is terrible. On a busy day I might have one cup of full caf tea. It makes me more awake, but not keyed up like coffee does. I like the way that brewing tea reaches me to slow down for a while, and I love the comfort of holding a steaming mug of tea and looking out at the snow or rain or the fading light at dusk. I can hold that warmth and sip it and give thanks that I am home.
The day has to start with a large mug of tea, builders strength in my case. When we travel I now pack a mug so I can start the day in my usual way. I make my wifes coffee while my tea brews, some would say stews, as sitting end enjoying it is an important ritual of the weekend or days off rather than at my desk starting the day.
This is such a gorgeous read! LOVE my tea and try to take my time over all the steps too, taking it all in like a day to day meditation. Still have too many mugs, just like we did growing up. 😂🙈 Also laughed at activating the dog, our two are just same, but it's the car who'll spot you moving first. 😆
I love that fact that you treat it likely a daily meditation! These small rituals are important in life :). Yes, my family is the kind that everything rather revolves around the animals!
Oh I love this.... My first cup of Tea means so much to me and I love to go make my own before anyone else is up. Its a ritual I have created myself. Creeping down the hall and clicking the kettle on, standing those couple of minutes in the quiet of the house whilst the kettle boils and then enjoying the ritual of both making the tea and drinking it.
Utterly adored this and it brought back so many memories. One, mishearing a friends mum the morning after a sleepover and being given tea with sugar in it. It made me long to be back across the road with my no sugar in tea drinking family immediately.
This is such a lovely memory to witness. As a North American, tea was never a big part of our culture growing up, but wow it really is so soothing. Coffee gives me this same sense of nostalgia, and definitely also took a learning curve to enjoy it☺️☕️
The rare Yank, here, who loves tea and would nevvver drink coffee. I start and end my day with tea. Decades ago, I was introduced to tea drinking whilst visiting my pen pal in the Orkneys. And I'll never forget my one experience of high tea at some hotel in London. I loved reading your post, with all the attendant memories of your childhood.
This also reminded me of the first time I tried earl grey - my dad’s favourite tea. I then remember going to a friend’s house, being offered tea and asking if they had Earl Grey and being teased for being “ooooh she’s a bit posh!” Tea means so many things to us eh? X
I’m just laughing at activate the dog - heading back up to read the rest! 😆✨✨

Aw your mornings sound lovely! Yes I have a friend who's the same with her love of milky tea!
Ahh took me right back to enjoying my first tea in an orange sippy cup as a child. My mum would make it milky with sweetners. ✨
Aw how lovely!

I so agree! :)

What a lovely routine!
Yorkshire tea is my favourite too. Strangely, I like it really weak, but it definitely has a distinct taste. 😊

Sounds perfect!

What a lovely comment! You're right that the feeling of a warm mug of tea is so comforting :)

I love that! The first tea of the day needs the right mug :)

Oh I love that memory! It really does :)
This was such a lovely portrait of your parents ❤️ and oh, the ache of confiding one’s affection at five and realising it is not always returned 🥲
Thank you!
I just happened to be having a cup of tea while reading this.
Ah, ideal!
